Dan R Cook is a British painter, born in the Southeast of England.

Currently living near St Ives Bay in Cornwall.

 

Dan produces paintings and drawings on wood panel and paper. A constant flow that has attracted galleries, private buyers and commercial installation from the outset and throughout the last 5 years. One artwork feeding the next

 

Following a successful career in commercial illustration, skills in draughtsmanship and challenges in exploring a variety of visual techniques are now prepared with traditional materials as wall art. Oil painted abstractions with pastel and pencil sketching.

 

No specific idea or narrative is represented or searched for in the work. Each piece follows in a stream of recovery. His own personal, emotional responses are collected over time and given a physical and visual moment.

 

Large colour masses and threads of fine line create a delicate tension on large panels. Layers of paint and mediums are applied and recovered through tooled and hand techniques.

 

Robust topography is often overlain with thinned translucent colour. A history unfolds with each layer or perhaps in anticipation of something to come.

 

Rather than a creative journey, Dan’s process is more of a chain reaction with one artwork sparking the next. It is a restless and stimulating time, underpinned by disciplined and constantly developed techniques.

 

All artworks are started and completed in a small studio space.

Dan's work has now shown in solo shows, group exhibitions and regularly attracting collectors in UK art fairs. His art is selling internationally with work spreading through the UK, Europe and the USA.
