I've been mooching around this area, very local to me. These historical maps reveal how much mining and subterranean exploration has taken place in Cornwall. These old mine shafts are small and overgrown. Reclaimed by paths, foliage and some unconvincing barbed wire fencing. Looking small and feeling the earth and scars of human activity here is underpinning a lot of my work this summer. It is a recent history but now very still.
